Skara Brae Scottish Bed & Breakfast

Skara Brae beckons with breathtaking views and old-world  hospitality.  Enjoy the mesmerizing sights and sounds from the lake below while relaxing on the comfortable and spacious decks or fireside in the lakefront living room.

Accommodations include one cottage (honeymoon suite) with king-sized bed, kitchenette and bath, a two-room suite with private bath and a third queen-size bedroom with adjoining private bath.  European art, quilts, English country fabrics and native wood paneling decorate the bedrooms.   VCR's and stereos are available for enjoying movies and music.  You are welcome to select from our collection of videos and CD's for personal enjoyment in your private quarters.

Each morning in the summer season and winter weekends we serve a sumptuous full breakfast.  Delicious quiches, baked French toast, frittatas, roasted red potatoes, maple sausage, and or caramelized bacon are served hot from the oven.  A continental breakfast is offered on weekdays during the winter season.  Afternoon tea includes freshly baked scones served warm with mock Devonshire cream, lemon curd, and a Scottish shortbread baked in the Borders region of Scotland.

Skara Brae Scottish Bed & Breakfast is uniquely located on the shore of Lake Superior very near hiking, boating, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, bike riding, golfing and sightseeing.  In the winter you can enjoy snow shoeing, cross-country/downhill skiing, and great snowmobile trails.  Everything that you come to the majestic North Shore to do.  Skara Brae is located just 10 minutes from the Pincushion Mountain cross-country ski area and 20 minutes from some of the state's best downhill skiing at Lutsen Mountains.  Yet, we are only 5 minutes away from downtown Grand Marais and the foot of the Gunflint Trail...The Gateway to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.

As a break from your outdoor activities, Grand Marais is the perfect location to purchase unique gifts or to add to your art collection with a piece by one of the many artists shown in the local galleries.   Also in Grand Marais, enjoy delicious international cuisine such as freshwater fish from Lake Superior, locally made pizzas, authentic Mexican food,  and a large selection of the best pies you will ever taste.  Frequently, in the evenings you can see a play at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts, or listen to music at one of the local venues in town.
